How to Wind and Set an Automatic Watch Without Damaging It

How an Automatic Actually Works

Inside the watch is a coiled **mainspring** that stores energy. As it unwinds it drives a **gear train**, regulated by an **escapement** and a **balance wheel** oscillating at a fixed rate, which is what turns stored energy into accurate timekeeping.
